Is ESWT effective for shin pain?

For quite some time I have been keeping an eye on Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) as a treatment modality for a number of different conditions, but most notably plantar heel pain.

There has been a slow but steady flow of fairly reliable research that now indicate a strong likelihood ESWT is effective in the management of chronic heel pain, and may in fact be the first line management of this condition.

But the question for me now is, "is it appropriate and does it it work for other conditions we treat?"

And the key for me is always, does it offer a meaningful advantage, both in efficacy and cost, over other therapies we use with success?
