Sever’s Disease and Orthoses We talk about the big question today, “Do Orthoses Work For Sever’s Disease?”. I love to talk about Sever’s Disease! Lots of people think I am way behind the times calling it Sever’s Disease instead of Calcaneal Apophysitis, which I agree is more appropriate, but I do not mind being inappropriate…

Wow, not read the paper fully as yet but I have to say, after almost 40 years of practice, this is not my experience. I rarely use orthoses and alost always use 6mm Poron heel raises combined with hamstring and calf flexibility and it is rare they are not better / resolved before 12 weeks. Pretty unscientific I know but……
I braodly agree Trev, but I have seen what I believe to be biomech cause and effect with Sever’s that has responded really well to orthoses.
The use of customisable OTC orthoses may be a suitable compromise…heel raise and stress modifier for a reasonable price.
100% agree!
