Injuries around the 5th metatarsal base. So MUCH confusion!

I was recently asked the following question: "What are your thoughts on peroneal tendinopathy, particularly insertional. At the same time thoughts on other pathology about the base of the fifth metatarsal?" At a recent presentation, peroneal tendinopathy and its relationship to low supination resistance were discussed and treatment advocated lateral rearfoot wedging.

Injuries of the peroneal tendon include rupture, tendinopathy, and subluxation, and are frequently associated with chronic lateral ankle pain and lateral ankle instability. Chronic tendinopathy and interstitial tears occur more commonly than complete tear or subluxation.
